Homework W 25
1. Read books 4 &5 of The Odyssey.
2. Your paper topics if you are curious and want to start preparing in advance.
1. Talk about some of the gender issues approached by Medea and The Odyssey. What are some of the cultural roles of women?
2. Are the characters in the Odyssey static (dont't change) or dyamic (change)? Why or why not. Focus on Telemachus, Penelope, and Odysseus.
3. Discuss the role of Kleos in the Greek Texts. Discuss how it determines the actions of the players in each book.

Homework M Sept 23
1. Read The odyssey book 1 2 3. We will have a quiz Monday.
2. Write 1 page answering the following question. What do you think of Telemachus? What are some of his problems? Be specific from the book. Bring this in hard copy to turn in Monday.
3. Post a reply to the blog mentioning one specific example of how The gods are mentioned in the text, and what it means in context. Example- Penelope prays to Apollo to strike the suitors. Apollo is the god of archery so she is essentially hoping they all get hit by arrows.

Pick 3 ways in which Medea fails to work as an Aristotelian tragedy. Rewrite these scenarios in order to make them fit the rules. Example: There is no recognition as such, so Medea would kill her own children by accident, then not realize it until the closing.

2. After reading Aristotle and Medea, answer the following questions in a few sentences each. Bring a hard copy to class please. Use the info sheet I posted for help.

b. Does Medea have reversal or recognition/discovery? Identify, if there is not one explain a plot point that could be added.
